How you can change the world in just one minute

Guest-blog by a very wise friend who shared this as an email.

Written by Publish Pac. 002This post is inspired by the recent events in the Middle East. We’re proposing that we all spend a minute’s silence at 9 pm every evening sending peace there.

Silent minute

In the 1980′s a great friend, who was then aged 65, used to say that the 2nd world war only turned after the introduction of the ‘silent minute’. This was observed by millions of people in the UK and then throughout the world, at nine o’clock every evening after the sound of Big Ben was played on the radio. At that time millions stopped and observed silence for this short time – there was no special creed or religion involved – only a strong desire for peace.

Secret weapon

The minute was started by a man called Wellesley Tudor Pole. The then King George IV, Winston Churchill and Franklin Roosevelt all supported it and it soon became a nightly ritual. A story goes that In 1945 a British intelligence officer was interrogating a high Nazi official. He asked him why he thought Germany lost the war. His reply was, ‘During the war, you had a secret weapon for which we could find no counter measure, which we did not understand, but it was very powerful. It was associated with the striking of the Big Ben each evening. I believe you called it the ‘Silent Minute’.

Bringing peace with peace

We’re sure we are not alone in now feeling impotent about the Syrian war and other conflicts in the Middle East and around the globe. Using weapons to fight weapons and aggression to fight aggression does not make sense to us. Using peace to bring peace does.

peace010We then thought about what our friend told us and how we too would like to commit to one minute of silence now. We know we can’t do very much alone, but we recognise the power of numbers.

All of us, many people together, can become a huge force for good. We’re sure that if enough people spent that one minute again we too could contribute to stopping war and bringing peace just like during the 2nd world war.

Our 9 pm silence

If you feel moved to spend this time please spend a minutes in silence at 9 pm each day. In any country it can still be 9 pm and even if it is a different time it will be a good marker. And if you miss it please do it at another time – any time spent for peace will be helpful. We don’t have the sound of Big Ben to remind us, so a reminder on our phones or computer could help.

We want to re-emphasise this is not for any religion, creed or belief but is for us all no matter what we believe. It is a call for us to all come together. Please spend one minute in thought, prayer, meditation or just silence focusing on peace in the Middle East.

Silent attention as a weapon

Together we can have a greater affect on war than any weapons – in fact it is a silent weapon!

In peace.

As peaceloving and practical people, at De Magische Bongerd we intend to join in this initiative, our interpretation will be to hold the One Minute Silence, starting september 1st,, working the energy through the turning of the autumn tide at the equinox,  until the new tide is well established at  Halloween, 31st october 2013.

Do not feel that you are powerless, ever. Together we necessarily make a difference.  Science dictates it. There is nothing as powerful as dedicated, pointed attention.

Please let us know in the comments if you wish to join in. And do share this blog or text  with as many people as you can.
